Remittance

Remittance: "SOME PLUNK down cash for tricycles. Others bankroll sari-sari stores. Yearly, overseas Filipino workers remit a hefty $17 billion plus. But “there’s not much evidence” that this infusion of OFW funds has “contributed to real development.” Why?

“Transnational Bridges: Migration, Development and Solidarity in the Philippines” probes for causes. Scalabrini Migration Center and the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) published this first of three studies.

The reports sum up two years of research with University of Valencia and Italy’s Fondazione ISMU. “Transnational” straddles 30 provinces, 12 regions, plus Filipino migrants in Spain and Italy. European Union supported the Mapid (Migrant Associations and Philippine Institutions for Development) project."
